Ultimate Beginner Quilt: Sashing and Borders

Welcome to the Ultimate Beginner Quilt sew-along. We’re on the home stretch! Today we’re joining our blocks together with the sashing and borders. Kimberly Jolly will show you all the steps and share tips on the Jolly Jabber blog. Now I’m excited to show you my quilt top!

Before I sewed the blocks together, I experimented with the arrangement of blocks to distribute the colors across the quilt. I also tried spinning the blocks in different directions. I hope you also take the time to play with your final design.

The narrow green border plus the wide navy dot border tied all the colors together.

I’m looking forward to preparing my quilt back and learning how to quilt the layers together. Gina Tell will be showing us how to quilt either straight lines or free-motion stippling. I’m still considering my finishing options. For now, I’m enjoying the finished quilt top. I hope you do too. Celebrate your success!

My niece Ms. M is catching up on her quilt blocks. She finished most of the cutting and stitched block 7. Once again she impressed me with her accuracy. She’s ready to do this on her own! I’ll be sewing with Miss A. this weekend.
