What Does Every Farmhouse Need? A Quilt!

During the last few months, I’ve been snuggling under the perfect farmhouse quilt. Meet Barn Style.

Many years ago I bought the Moda cowboy prints from a shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin: A Stitch in Time. Then I saved the fabrics until I had the perfect pattern. Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique designed Barn Style, which shows off these small prints.

My friend Angie from Taylored Quilting stitched the Calm Waters design so that the Cowboy prints and barn star blocks take center stage.

I even found a flannel cowboy print for the backing and a coordinating stripe.

The Moda indigo chambray background provides the perfect farmhouse look. It reminds me of the button-down shirts my grandpa wore for chores on his dairy farm.

I wanted to style my quilt on an old weathered “sign” that was nailed to our fence post. Unfortunately, the wood arrow fades into the dry prairie flowers and grass. All to say, this is a rugged, cozy quilt fit for my ranch foreman (Hubby). Even the head of ranch security (Wally) likes to snuggle up with it while we watch TV.

My Farmhouse Quilt Inspiration

When I was young, I watched a lot of cowboy TV shows and movies. Does anyone else remember Michael Landon as Little Joe on Bonanza? My parents bought my sisters and me a couple of ponies, and I longed for cowboy boots and a hat to look the part. Now that I live on a farm, I look more at ease wearing LL Bean and Fleet Farm gear than Frye and Stetson. Yet, I’m so happy to have this quilt with vintage cowboy art to keep my little girl’s dream alive.

Joyfully,

Tracie
