Swoon Sixteen Wool Pillow

This week I was distracted by a “squirrel”—an unplanned project, also known as a drop everything and make it (DrEAMI). The Fat Quarter Shop is partnering with Camille Roskelly of Thimble Blossoms to encourage quilters to make at least one of Camille’s Swoon Sixteen quilt blocks and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #FQSswoonalong. I love Camille’s Swoon patterns, so I couldn’t resist. Be sure to read the Jolly Jabber blog that includes a video tutorial by Camille.

I made a Mini Swoon a few years ago, and it’s one of my favorite quilts so far.

For the Swoon Sixteen, I decided to make a wool pillow. So, instead of traditional piecing, I hand appliquéd each piece to the background, using the pattern as my guide. In the past I used Steam a Seam lite to fuse pieces in place; this time I used Elmer’s washable school glue and safety pins to hold everything in place. I love wool pillows in the winter, and this Swoon will greet visitors from a bench by my front door.

Next week I’ll get back to my planned Maple Leaf Pillow. Today I’m linking up with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict; checkout everyone’s projects this week!

Joyfully,
