Zip It! Zip It Good! Sewing Fun for E-Readers

Do you prefer reading from a print book or an e-reader? I bought a Kindle Paperwhite several years ago, and it is wonderful for carrying a little library in my purse or travel bag. The real bonus is that I can download eBooks from my local library. Previously, Kindle e-readers were excluded. Sadly, my trusty little Kindle never had a proper case or a handy way to store my charging cord. Then I saw the Hemingway zip pouch pattern by Center Street Quilts and knew I found the perfect solution to zip it up.

The Hemingway Zip Pouch

Perhaps I would more accurately the Hemingway as a padded sleeve with a sassy diagonal zip opening. I sewed this up quickly with Kristina’s great instructions and videos on her Instagram account. The travel-themed fabric from Rifle Paper Co. has cute stamps on the red lining print. As you can see below, the padded sleeve easily accommodates my Kindle and its charging cord.

I Love Fast, Fun Projects

My e-reader sleeve came together so quickly that I made another Hemingway pouch. The pattern includes four sizes, and I made the pencil pouch this time. It’s a great size for sunglasses or rotary cutters too!

I used my Ruby Star’s Pop! to make this cutie. She coordinates nicely with my Mini Maker Case and Sew Together Bag.

Kristina recommended using the Gypsy Handy Zipper Jig to install the zipper pull on the zipper by the yard. However, I found it easier without the jig.

The pattern is easy enough for a beginner sewist. I highly recommend making Hemingway pouches as gifts. I think I’ll make one for my iPad next.

Lastly, if you like fast, fun projects, stay tuned for the Villa Rosa Fast and More Fun Blog Hop that will take place March 14 – 21. I plan to share a very fast and fun quilt that I made for my nephew. My friend Angie is custom quilting it so stay tuned to see what she does!

Joyfully,

Tracie
