Hunter’s Star Table Runner: Classic and Vintage

Hunter’s Star Quilt Along

Today the Fat Quarter Shop released the Hunter’s Star quilt pattern, kit, and instructional video as part of their Classic and Vintage series. Kimberly Jolly has all the details on the Fat Quarter Shop blog, The Jolly Jabber.

Kimberly also invited twenty-one people to make at least one block and share their experience, and I’m one of those quilters!

Hunter’s Star Table Runner

The Fat Quarter Shop pattern includes instructions for a table runner and three sizes of quilts: lap, twin, and queen. Since I wanted to add some springtime cheer to my table top, I chose to make the table runner. Almost all the fabrics are from Fig Tree & Company’s Strawberry Fields Revisited and Whimsy. Perfect for thoughts and hopes of spring, right?

Instructions for cutting and sewing are exceptionally thorough. The blocks came together perfectly! Doesn’t that make quilting more fun? Four blocks intersect to create the Hunter’s Star motif in the center.

The soft colors and florals make me think of a few of my favorite things: gardens and bunnies. Did you know there’s a new Peter Rabbit movie playing in theaters? I always have enjoyed Beatrix Potter’s books and illustrations. In the photo below are a few of my favorite rabbit figurines that I purchased in England. Doesn’t Peter look cozy wrapped up in the quilt? Do you remember how he caught a chill?

If you have a sharp eye, you may have noticed that the bottom book is a German translation, which I purchased at a shop in Heidelberg years ago. Peter Rabbit has been translated into thirty-six languages and sold more than 45 million copies according to Wikipedia. I hope to add more translations to my collection, especially since my daughter researches world languages.

Anyhow, if you like star quilts like me, I highly recommend the complete Hunter’s Star pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. You can also download the free block pattern.

I added a narrow border to separate the floral border from the floral fabrics in the blocks.
