Christmas Village Mini Quilt

I planned to make a Postage Stamp Star pillow to coordinate with my Home for Christmas quilt. However, when I sat down at my sewing machine to construct the pillow, a squirrel ran across my path. (Okay, the only squirrel that ran across my path today was Ghostie, the neighborhood albino squirrel. But the metaphorical squirrel distracted me and there was no going back.) Instead of a pillow back, I made a Christmas Village mini quilt from scraps from Home for Christmas.

Initially, I planned to use this Christmas Village as one side of the pillow, but I didn’t feel like making a pillow. At. All. So I listened to the “Ghost of Christmas Future,” the white squirrel, and made a mini quilt instead. The Postage Stamp Star became the back of the mini quilt.

I stitched this Village pattern together (affiliate link), quilted it, and bound it in a jiffy. I had time today because my dear husband was bicycling with the United Healthcare Children’s Foundation Century Ride. While he was pedaling 100 miles around Minnesota’s beautiful lakes and through thunderstorms with his coworker, I sat in my comfy sewing room and tracked their progress on my iPhone.

These two heroes represented Salesforce.com as a corporate sponsor of the event. They helped raise money to cover medical expenses for three chrildren.

My husband said that the three children benefitting from the century ride were flown to the event, given new bicycles, and led the group of 170 riders at the starting line. Isn’t that cool?!

In comparison, my accomplishment is small. But it was fun! If you’re distracted by a squirrel, I hope it’s a friendly one like the “ghost” in our neighborhood!
