Ultimate Beginner Quilt Block 9: Friendship Star
Welcome to block 9 of the Ultimate Beginner Quilt sew-along: Friendship Star Variation. I think my block looks like a party, and I’m celebrating because this is our last quilt block. Woohoo! We learned a lot of new skills and made pretty things.
You can find the pattern, video tutorial, and more inspiration on the Fat Quarter Shop’s blog, the Jolly Jabber. You probably noticed that the skills you learned in blocks two and four set you up for success with the Friendship Star Variation.
Block Party Reveal
Isn’t it fun to see all the blocks stitched together? I can’t wait to show you my completed quilt top and see yours. (I look through the #ultimatebeginnerquilt Instagram posts for fun.) More than anything, I’m excited to see this project through to completion with my nieces. I’m hoping to sew with Miss A. this weekend!
If you’re not using the Ultimate Beginner Kit, Gina Tell from Thread Graffiti suggested that you look at your blocks so far and decide whether you need more or less of certain colors in your final block so that the colors are spread equally across your quilt.
I placed my quilt blocks on my design wall as I stitched them together. It was helpful to see how I needed to use the dark navy fabrics to keep my eye moving across the quilt. I also changed up the layout of my blocks for that same reason. Come back next week for quilt top assembly time!
Joyfully,
Tracie
