Perfect Gift: Mini Scrap Patch Bag
Welcome to the Fat Quarter Shop’s blog remix! Today I’m sharing my excitement for the Mini Scrap Patch Bag video tutorial. There’s no pattern to buy — just follow along at the Jolly Jabber as Kimberly Jolly demonstrates how to sew this cute 7.5-inch by 6-inch zippered bag. I think the pouch is perfect for giving a few sweet treats along with a gift card. And you have plenty of time to make one bag or more before the holidays.

Construction
This is a great project to do in short spurts over a period of time or spend a Saturday making several at once. To make a bag, you need a few supplies:
- one mini charm pack
- one fat quarter or scraps of fabric (I used leftover layer cake squares.)
- zipper
- thread
- 2.5″ fusible grid panel (I was able to make two bags from one panel.)

Kimberly uses a Creative Grids ruler to round the bottom edges of the bag. Since I didn’t have the ruler — and necessity is the mother of invention — I grabbed a water glass from my cupboard and used the edge as a guide for my rotary cutter. The rounded corner really adds a lot of charm to the bag, don’t you think?

Moda Mini Charm Packs
I have a lot of these Moda Candies because I order mini charm packs to see an entire fabric line and then decide whether I want to buy a larger precut or yardage. For example, I pre-ordered the Farmhouse II mini charm pack by Fig Tree and Co. to determine which prints I’d like to add to my stash for my Moda Blockheads 2 quilt. Because the Fat Quarter Shop mailed the mini charm pack to me as soon as it arrived in their warehouse, I have time to compare the prints to my stash and place an order before my favorite fabrics are sold out.

In the Bag
I use a pouch in my purse to corral small items, such as tissues, chapstick, and gum. I also use one to hold my phone charger and earbuds when I travel.

As you can see in the photo below, the coordinating lining and zipper tabs give the bag a neat, professional look. Don’t let the zipper scare you! Kimberly makes it easy, and the By Annie Zippers really are a breeze to install with a quarter-inch foot on your sewing machine. (I did use my zipper foot to install a zipper from my sewing basket, and that was easy too.)

I hope you enjoy making and giving away a few Mini Scrap Patch Bags. They really make a delightful gift that you can personalize with your fabric choices and the gifts you tuck inside.
