5 Reasons Why I Prefer the Maven 140IS Steam Iron
I spend nearly every day working on a quilting project, so my steam iron gets a workout. When I moved into my new sewing room, I decided to upgrade a few things, including my steam iron. For the past 30 years, I’ve owned two Black + Decker Digital Advantage irons, which I primarily used to iron clothing. Because I loved my Oliso Mini Project Iron (affiliate link), I decided to buy an Oliso Pro Plus. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with it, primarily because it leaks and spits water if the water temperature cools between uses. Then Reliable asked if I would try their iron, and I’m happy to tell you about the things I love about the Maven 140IS steam iron.
Pros: Maven 140IS Steam Iron by Reliable
I was hesitant to try another “professional” iron after my past year of disappointment. In fact, I was going to purchase a new Black + Decker model but it wasn’t available on Amazon. Needless to say, I was happily surprised by the Maven 140IS.
- The precision tip makes pressing seams open much easier.
- Plentiful steam makes flatter patchwork seams.
- The iron heats up very quickly. The Maven iron hasn’t spit or leaked!
- It is lighter than other irons because the large water tank is a separate unit.
- There’s a replaceable water filter so tap water works great.
Thankfully, the only surprise has been how smitten I am with it. There are two things that I’m getting used to: the iron turns off after 10 minutes (but reheats very quickly) and the water tank takes up a few precious inches on my ironing board. To offset the loss of surface area, I plan to upgrade to a wider ironing board.
I took a few photos so you can see a side-by-side comparison between Reliable’s Maven and the Oliso irons.
A great iron adds joy to my quilting day! Let me know if you have any questions. I’m not an affiliate of Reliable; I’m just happier in my sewing room.
Joyfully,
