Farm to Garden Mini Quilt

At last I finished my Farm to Garden mini quilt and hung it up on my sewing room wall. This was a quilt kit I purchased from the Fat Quarter Shop about a year ago.

The kit includes Garden Variety fabric by Lella Boutique, the pattern booklet, and a Mini Cupcake Mix Pad to create the small half-square triangles. I purchased coordinating fabric for the backing. The completed quilt measures 26-inches square.

The pattern, which includes bonus instructions for a pincushion, suggests making the mini quilt into a 26-inch pillow cover. I definitely will make another one to cover an IKEA feather pillow! The Farmer’s Daughter block is one of my favorite quilt blocks, and it’s the design of my mom’s barn quilt.

My Sewing Room Update

Thanks to everyone who responded to my new home update and gave helpful suggestions for the paint color on my walls! The ideas included waiting to change the color and observing how the light changes, painting it Rainwashed (SW 6211), painting it a shade of yellow, or painting it a neutral color that doesn’t cast a color onto my quilt projects (and photos). I’m considering all the options!

I want a lighter, warmer color because the French Moire (SW 9056) feels cold and dark on cloudy days. Notice the difference below; I took both photos with the lights off.

All the boxes, bins, and bags are unpacked and stored fairly neatly in my closet. I used storage pieces I had on hand and purchased the hanging closet organizer on the right from Target. There are a few quilt tops and backs hanging on both sides of the closet, hidden from view.

Cozy Factor

I don’t have much decor in the room yet. There’s one favorite old photo of my children when we visited Florida and the seashells we collected on that trip that sit on top of my Vault of Happiness. And a basket of stuffed felt animals my children sewed when they were very young hangs on a hook. Those hand stitches warm my heart as I recall the days when they were excited to stitch while I read stories aloud to them.

Since we are empty-nesters again, this is one way I keep my kids close to my heart.

Thanks for visiting me! If you’d like to make a Farm to Garden wall hanging, kits are still available at the Fat Quarter Shop. Either a wall hanging or pillow would make a great gift.

Joyfully,

Tracie
