Why I Make Quilts & 2019 Goals

I subscribe to the Design Seeds blog for color inspiration, and when I saw the Mental Vacation color collage I immediately identified that as my reason for quilting.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary app, a vacation is a time spent away from home or business, a respite from something. A synonym of vacation is recess, a suspension of business or procedure often for rest or relaxation (such as children playing at recess). Well, quilting definitely transports me to a happy place for play. So my quilting goal for 2019 is simple: Play more and have fun! If you want to read about other people’s quilting goals, hop on over to Quilting Jet Girl’s 2019 Planning Party!

And to make play a priority, I will continue setting a monthly goal with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. Not only did I reach all my goals last year, but also I won a $25 gift certificate from the Fat Quarter Shop, one of the sponsors of the One Monthly Goal. I encourage you to sign up for the One Monthly Goal, Patty’s newsletter (a favorite of mine), and consider joining her hand pieced quilt along that begins in January.

My January goal is to finish a DrEAMI (drop everything and make it) that popped up just before Christmas. I placed a large order at Fat Quarter Shop, so I received a Glad Tidings Jolly Bar and The Jolly Bar Book as a gift. I quickly stitched the blocks into the Autumn Star pattern and plan to back it with double-sided white fleece. I think it’ll be a perfect cuddle quilt for my youngest nephew.

I actually have a lot of quilting fun planned for the cold month of January. How about you? Will you make fun a priority during 2019?

Joyfully,
