Sweden’s Saturday Sweets and A Riot of Color

This week I enjoyed sewing up a riot of color as I assembled the first third of my Postcard from Sweden quilt. I’m so glad Sandra is guiding us through the quilting process because her tips are keeping me on track. The other very encouraging for me is scrolling through the #postcardfromswedenqal2022 on Instagram and looking at everyone’s progress. (Click on the link to Sandra’s blog to see all the progress reports.) Here’s my progress shot!

I decided to have a mental health day this week, spending the entire day wearing my pajamas and sewing. Not only was I able to complete the first third but also make some serious headway on the second third of the quilt. The biggest challenge in assembling this quilt is making sure I have the right color in the correct position. So here’s a peek at my tracking system.

I track which colors to use with cross-stitch line keepers and an old-school highlighter.

I lay out the blocks, photograph the layout, stitch, and trim half-square triangle units, and then assemble the hourglass unit and press it. After pressing, I label each half-square triangle unit (using a Pigma pen) so that I place the block correctly when I assemble the rows.

This quilt is a lot of fun because of the riot of color brightening my quilt room! My favorite color name is School Bus yellow.

Saturday Sweets

I wanted to point you to some fun trivia that I read today on the BBC news app. People in Sweden have a sweet tradition of shopping for and eating sweets only on Saturdays. Read the story here. Frankly, I would have a difficult time limiting my sweet treats to one day a week. However, I do like the idea of creating fun family traditions.

Are you eating fun food for Super Bowl Sunday? Tell me about it in the comments!

Joyfully,
