Summer: The Joy of Missing Out
I see so many fun quilt alongs on Instagram, and I’m so tempted to join a few of them. However, I have other fun things planned for June, so I’m reminding myself to embrace the joy of missing out (JOMO) — the opposite of the fear of missing out (FOMO). The joy is found when I acknowledge that I’m doing other good things, so I don’t have room to add any more. I admit that it’s a struggle because I’m still hoping to squeeze in Moda Bake Shop’s At the Seashore summer quilt along.
This month is packed! I have a new writing project for work, my daughter came for a visit, and we are meeting friends on a Michigan island for a Jeep Jamboree. So, my one monthly goal is to sew at least 20 minutes a day when I’m at home. With that focused time I should be able to complete the 96 four-patch blocks necessary for my final round of my Choose Your Own Adventure quilt from last summer. I still love this Nest fabric by Lella Boutique!
My almost-done quilt has been hanging over the half-wall in my sewing loft for a very long time. I think it’ll look much nicer on my bed.
Summer Fun
I grew up on a dairy farm, so I always remember the dairy farmers and their wonderful products during June, the Dairy Month. It’s hard to not think about it when I have this large calendar by 1Canoe2 hanging on my wall. (I crave a fresh strawberry ice cream cone every ding-dong day!)
I’m still on the hunt for a strawberry ice cream cone! Evidently strawberry ice cream isn’t super popular, like Fat Elvis, Superman, or other trendy flavors.
I did have one special moment last weekend. My husband and I went kayaking on a nearby lake and we saw a loon. And then we heard it! I’ve seen our state bird before, but I’ve never heard it’s call. Now I feel like a legit Minnesotan.
What fun things do you have planned for June? I hope you enjoy at least one ice cream cone. Do you have a favorite flavor?
Joyfully,
Tracie
