London Roads: Sew a Free Classic + Vintage Quilt Block

The free London Roads quilt block pattern from Fat Quarter Shop looks like a roundabout traffic pattern. And that idea inspired my choice of fabrics. Bella Solids nautical blue is the background and bleached white form arrows. A fussy-cut square of “J is for Jeep” by Riley Blake is the focal point. I enlarged my quilt block to make an 18″ coordinating pillow for my Jeep Off-Road Adventure quilt. Since I made one only block, I used one white section in the quarter-triangle unit to emphasize the arrows.

After completing the quilt block, I pieced the back panel from the remaining pieces of the quilt backing fabric. Isn’t it satisfying to use up every inch of our favorite fabrics?

London Roads Quilt Pattern and Kit

As I mentioned, the Fat Quarter Shop has a free London Roads block pattern and tutorial. They also offer a low-cost London Roads quilt pattern with four different sized projects: table runner, lap, twin, and queen. This is a fun pattern to make! And if you like to fussy cut novelty prints like me, it’s double the fun.

Now compare the playful look of my pillow to the summery notes of the Fat Quarter Shop London Roads kit. Isn’t this quilt beautiful? The quilt features “Sophie” by Brenda Riddle, which reminds me of a rose-covered cottage.

As we anticipate international travel, let’s stitch up a few London Roads! Download the free block pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop today and give it a try. Once you see how easy it is, you’ll want to purchase the kit or pattern to make a quilt.

Joyfully,

Tracie
