Moda Block Heads 2: Buckeye Beauty & Pennsylvania

Today I listened to the American Patchwork and Quilting podcast and learned that block-of-the-month and sampler quilts are very popular with quilters because we like the slow, steady pace and camaraderie of making blocks with other people. That’s exactly why I decided to sew along with the Moda Block Heads 2 group! And it’s more fun than I imagined because of all the photos popping up on the Facebook group page and Instagram (#modablockheads).

My last blog post showed Block 1, the Stellar Star. Block 2 is Buckeye Beauty. My block looks pretty humble, so spend some time looking on social media to see how cool this block is in bold colorways or grouped together into four units.

Block 3 is Pennsylvania—another humble-looking block when compared to Stellar Star. Once again, it comes down to fabric choices and how colors play with each other. I saw a few amazing sets of blocks using fabrics designed by Kim Diehl.

So this is my little collection of blocks so far. Next spring I hope to turn all the blocks into a soft, summery quilt that makes me think of eating strawberry shortcake on a picnic.

Would you like to join in the fun? All the patterns are free! And you can use fabric you might already have tucked away in a drawer or closet. Find all the information on The Moda Cutting Table blog.
